THE TIGER MARCHING BAND
The 265-member TIGER MARCHING BAND from Alexis I. duPont High School, Wilmington, Delaware is the most televised high school band in America and the only band outside California to appear in the Pasadena Rose Parade four times under the same director!
This year, the band will be led by President Clinton Jordonand Drum Major Colin Hutt, both elected by their fellow students. The TIGERS, famous for their exciting high-step 'Show-style' marching and music, feature selections from Broadway, Jazz, classical and rock, all selected and designed by the students!
In addition to their four appearances at the Rose Bowl, THE TIGER MARCHING BAND has appeared in two Orange Bowl parades, represented Delaware at the inauguration of two presidents, the dedication of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The TIGERS have performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, The Royal Albert Hall, London and the National Concert Hall in Dublin, Ireland. The TIGERS have made frequent appearances in the New Year's Day Parade in London and the St. Patrick's Day Festival Parade in Dublin, Ireland. In 2007, the TIGERS performed in Vatican City, Rome, Italy for the 2007 Rome New Year's Parade. The crowd was estimated at 15,000 people and the Pope gave his New Year's Day Blessing to all in attendance.
The band has been featured on the BBC, ABC, FOX and the Irish National Network, as well as major televised sports events at home and abroad. Band members, grades 10 through 12, make up 25% of the school's student population and have placed 1 st in every marching competition they have entered since 1989. Often referred to as “the Jock Band”, 75% of the band's members participate in one or more varsity sports. On New Year's Day, 2008, The TIGERS will make their 5th appearance in Pasadena, California at the 2008 New Year's Day Rose Parade.
