THE CONCERT BAND

The flagship band at A. I. duPont High School is the 120-member Symphonic Band , open to 10 th - 12 th graders and the 60-member Symphonic Wind Ensemble, open to selected students, grades 9 - 12. All Freshmen are enrolled in the Freshman Band.

These three ensembles annually program transcriptions by such world-class composers as Berlioz, Wagner, Vivaldi, Gershwin, Villa-Lobos, Mahler, Respighi, Moussorgsky, Holst and Mahler. Original works for band include music by Reed, Nehlybel, Sousa and King, among others. All three bands have placed 1st in every Festival they have entered since 1989. The A.I. Blues Jazz Band is equally competitive and features innovative and classic tunes from the world of jazz music. One of every four students at A.I is in band!
